Many carers can benefit from speaking with someone about their caring role. Counselling and emotional support is available in many different formats including psychological support, individual and group counselling sessions and less formal listening ear support from other carers.

GP’s are able to refer patients to NHS counselling services which will then be available free of charge.

The Carers UK Adviceline provides both listening ear support from carers as well as advice from trained professionals, they also host an online forum which is moderated by carers and provides a space for carers to share experiences and support.

Many local carers centres provide emotional support and counselling s well as social group activities for carers. Other organisations that provide counselling support for carers include

  • The Samaritans,
  • MIND,
  • Local carers centres and social services within local authorities.
  • SANE provide an out of hours mental health help line providing emotional support and information to anyone affected by mental illness.
